Remember when we used to pay at least £15 for a CD and that was the only way to listen to the music we wanted to, when we wanted to?
How spoilt are we now? And for once we in Europe get something before Americans do…
Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg understates it with his facebook update, Spotify is more than just “so good”. I’m sitting at my laptop listening to all the music I want on demand, crisp and clear, no lag and free, just as music wants to be!
Friends across the pond waiting impatiently… it’s really, really good!
I’ve been watching the record industry with interest for quite a while, wondering what the future has in store for music. Not an easy one to work out, not least because the industry themselves have struggled to find a solution or future business model for digital music.
Something interesting started to happen a couple of years ago, starting with Radiohead releasing free tracks on download.
Around the same time ‘Groove Armada’ signed for not a record label, but a consumer brand (Bacardi).
See as much as we all like free music, artists still have to be paid for their work. But we’ve enjoyed free, ad funded content for other media for decades, so why shouldn’t that model work for music (as well as for online news)?
For Spotify and other online streaming services, as long as ad and premium service revenues can cover the per track play fees, then we’re all onto a winner. The fact that the major labels are reported to all be investors in Spotify can only make us optimistic.
Spotify = Good!
To try to restrict music sharing through DRM was always a bad idea. Music wants to be free!
On a free content model, free music means more fans for Bands and more exposure for the Brands paying them.
DRM (Digital Rights Management) = Bad!
So what does Simon Cowell have to do with all of this?
Nothing. I just needed to complete the line up and since to X factor is recently back, I have it in for him right now.
Simon Cowell = Ugly!

Jay ma man, AK's and shooting aside, you might be on to something :)
And yes... the X factor might be the worst thing on telly, but they pair of clowns Ant and Dec come a close second (have the lines closed yet?) :-)

aaahhhh…after a hard weeks work, one does like to enjoy the odd G & T whilst lying back and thinking of the week gone by. But I am afraid even that is a pleasure that I no longer have. Whether I wake up in the morning, or just tune in at night, I am bombarded with stupid twats in shellsuits dancing or a couple a gubby tarts giving us their rendition of Whitney's finest. And I am actually paying for this privilige/bombardment? And who told those muppets in the shellsuits that they had talent? I mean, most girls you meet out on the town can sing reasonably well….on X-Factor, when some mug arrives that can actually sing (not often, but apparantly it does..i'll need to set the alarm) they react like they have just discovered Mother Theresa's replacement. At least Simon gets to laugh as he has found another sheep to add to his useless twats of a flock that may make him another mill or two by flogging pre-mentioned sheep through our already bloated and downtrodden music market. Don't even get me started on the fannys that buy it. Here's a challenge for social media my old bean- we shall start a new online action group, SSC, or Shoot Simon Cowell if abbreviations aren't your thing. If the interent is as good as it says, I expect to hear from you all soon….don't worry, we have AK's for you all.
P.S And Ant and Dec…..a mean come on….Biker Grove was complete shite, some say it is their greatest body of work…I rest my case….
